Megan Foo: What inspires you about Givology’s mission?
Rabani Singh: What really inspires me is how Givology reaches out to everyone- kids of all ages, women who don't get the same privileges as men, and more- and how everyone who's a member of Givology is so successful at reaching out.
Megan Foo: What motivated you to start the Tesoro High School Givology Chapter?
Rabani Singh: I think many students nowadays take education for granted. I myself didn't realize how much was put on a silver platter in front of me, and how many kids don't receive any of that, until I stumbled upon the Givology website a few years ago. I get opportunities handed to me every day, and it was a real wake-up-call when I discovered how many kids don't receive good educations or no educations at all. That really motivated me (and my fellow classmates). We want to reach out to our community so that everyone is aware of the hardships kids just like us go through, and how education is so often taken for granted.
Megan Foo: Can you tell me a bit about the Tesoro High School Givology Chapter?
Rabani Singh: The Tesoro High School Givology Chapter is currently made of nine extremely loyal members, including myself. It may not seem like much, but we're all very motivated! We meet once every two weeks. The Tesoro High School Givology Chapter is currently made of nine extremely loyal members, including myself. It may not seem like much, but we're all very motivated! Megan Foo: What activities and initiatives has your chapter been involved with (e.g. blogging, letter writing campaign, fundraising, etc.)?
Rabani Singh: We raised money for one of the students Givology sponsors, Cristian Camilo, through a donation matching program at a company called Pimco. We plan to have a fundraiser in March.
Megan Foo: Which Givology project(s) is the Tesero High School Chapter planning to fundraise for this year?
Rabani Singh: So far, we've donated to one single student, but we would love to donate to a school.
Megan Foo: As the Chapter President, what has been your favorite part?
Rabani Singh: I definitely love our meetings. We meet at lunch in an empty classroom, and everyone sits down and discusses what we can do next in our mission to help students. It's such a great feeling when I get to stand back and listen as my faithful members take initiative, having fun all the while.
Megan Foo: What is your advice for people who are interested in starting chapters in their area or high school?
Rabani Singh: If you're interested in starting a chapter, go for it! Don't think twice, honestly. You get to meet and plan events with your friends while improving people's lives at the same time - what could be better?
