Top 5 Video Cards For Your Money: February 2008
The problem with computer games is that once the basics are mastered and the lower levels completed, the games require a more demanding level of skill to progress. This is when restrictions of the operating system, memory constraints, window-turning - also known as disk swapping - to and from RAM, pipelines and graphics rendering time, faster high-performance CPUs and RAM, become apparent. It is very possible to have a home gaming machine that costs tens of thousands of dollars. A nice pair of graphics cards can be nearly half the expense of the system. It is also possible to play games that run on a thousand dollar machine very well.

Memory settings: Again, I don't care what the RAM guys said, if you're running fast memory settings, that could be what's stopping you. If you want to determine the limits of your CPU, pull back on the settings.

When you increase the clock speed of a graphics adapter you increase the heat that will be generated by the graphics adapter. Some people will notice this in the form of a noisier fan on the computer. The extra heat generated will almost always decrease the lifespan of the computer. The lifespan is directly influenced by the extra heat generated, and it is linked exponentially. That means a mere 2 degrees could be the difference between your computer breaking instantly and breaking next month. In any case, learning how to how to overclock gpu video card CPUs should always be the second step. The first step should be to learn how to cool your video card far beyond what the factory fan and heatsink can do.

Both of them has Turbo Boost technology features in all of their processors. When a Turbo Boost is activated an increase of 300-400MHz in its frequency and also an increase to its performance is expected. Both of them have an integrated Graphics Processor in which the new Sandy Bridge processor features.

What You'll Want

Everyone has different views about what instruments are the most effective for overclocking your video card, but I've found these tools are the easiest and most effective:

A Windows machine. Our tutorial today is for Windows machines, since that's where the vast majority of gaming is done.

An NVIDIA or AMD video card. Some higher end cards may require slightly different instructions, but this guide should work for the majority of cards out there. Be sure to do just a little research on your own particular card to see what any differences may be.

MSI Afterburner. Afterburner is our favored overclocking application for Windows, but you could likely use any overclocking application you desire (as most of them are extremely similar). Despite its name, MSI Afterburner does not need an MSI video card. It will work with just about any video card out there, irrespective of the maker.

A video card benchmarking software, heaven. There are lots of standard utilities out there, so that is what we'll use but Heaven is our favorite.

GPU-Z a convenient utility that gives you a lot of advice about your video card,. We will not be using this much, but I advocate having it open as you overclock to make sure your video card really registers.

Patience. Seriously, this is going to take awhile. Grab yourself a cup of tea and a few comic books.

Step One: Do Your Research

You should hop on over to Google and do some research on your own card and after that read how to overclock gpu, before you need to do whatever else. Sift through websites like Overclock.net and find what type of clock speeds other folks are getting. DON'T only implement begin benchmarking and these clock speeds every single card is different, and even someone with the exact same model card will get an alternative overclock from the next guy or girl. The goal here will be to see what other people are getting so you know what's reasonable that way, if you get way higher than everyone else, you know something probably isn't working correctly.

While you're at it, find out what the highest voltage that is safe is for your cardthat'll be convenient when we begin shoving on the voltage. I am using the word "safe" loosely hereclearly, the only really safe voltage is the default option, and raising it can reduce the lifespan of your card.

If you might have a newer, high end cardnotably among the NVIDIA Kepler cardssome of your settings will differ than they're for other cards. Make sure you research a guide to your own card to see what each of the settings mean, if MSI Afterburner seems a little bit different for you.

Open MSI Afterburner and be aware of your stock speeds. Heaven should run one time through to be sure your card is stable at stock speeds before you start overclocking. You'll also get a benchmark score, which is an excellent way to measure your progress as you overclock. Here's what you must do:

Start Heaven, and you'll be greeted with its initial settings menu.

Tweak its settings however you desire. I generally like to set Quality, Tesselation, and Antialiasing to their maximum values, since I have a midrange card, but if you're overclocking a lower-end card, you may not have to shove on the settings up to now. Make sure Resolution is set to "System."

Click the Run button. Heaven will begin cycling through a number of scenes designed to push on your graphics card. Do not worry if it looks choppy or slow that is what we desire.

Click the "Standard" button in the upper left hand corner of the display to run a standard. This will go one time, quantifying the operation of your card.

You will see a window, when the standard is done. I enjoy to write this down so I will compare it -overclocking scores.

Rejoice, if it was made by your card through the standard run! Your card is, at the minimum, not unstable at stock settings and you understand on reading how to overclock gpu carry

Download your programs. You must have a several different programs, every one of which are available free of charge to overclock. These applications enable you to correct your card time, will provide you with performance standards and voltage, and track temperature functionality.

Download a benchmark application - There are several available, but one of the quickest & most intuitive is Heaven. It's available free of charge from Unigine, the developers. Another popular program is 3DMark.

Download an overclocking software. While both Nvidia and AMD have overclocking utilities in their own, MSI Afterburner is one of the most popular and widely-used software. Despite it's name, it is going to work with virtually every graphics card from both Nvidia and AMD.[2]

Download a monitoring program. Although benchmark and overclocking software will report temperatures and speeds, sometimes it's good to have another monitor to make sure that all of your settings take. GPU-Z is a lightweight program that will monitor every other facet of your graphics card, clock speed, memory speed, and the temperature.

We've all gone a bit giddy over Nvidia's new 900-series graphics cards. 970 and the GTX 980 are both substantial overclockersthe 970 overclocked can run nearly as fast as the reference 980and those overclock boosts help separate them from the still-fast AMD R9 cards and Nvidia GTX 700 series. But you don't need a new graphics card to be able to indulge in a little GPU tweakery. If your card is a year or two (or three) old, overclocking is the best way to squeeze a little more life (and higher graphics settings) out of it without spending any money.

Years ago, eager overclockers did genuinely run the risk of cooking their chips. Overclocking wasn't the most user-friendly process. But now times have changed. There are so many safeguards in place in your silicon that you'd have to really try to brick your hardware while doing some standard overclocking. There is still a little risk to overclocking, however: depending on which aftermarket vendor made your card, you may void your guarantee. You will likely only crash your machine and must restart, if anything bad happens; you are unlikely to unless the card is kept by your overclock at dangerous temperatures for long amounts of time to do serious damage.

Every GPU is not same, plus some cards are champ overclockers for those you dont need to read how to overclock gpu. I had been able to break the 1.5GHz hurdle with my GTX 970 G1 Gaming version, partially because Gigabyte specially assess their overclocking card's processors to make sure they're the ones with the most headroom. I had been able to get powerful close to 1.5GHz with my benchmark GTX 980 too, but the additional cooling system of the Gigabyte card meant my GTX 970 also runs an awful lot cooler.

Temperature is something to think about before you begin tweaking your GPU. If you've got an AMD Radeon R9 290 X in that case your card is not unlikely to be running under load at some 93C . You're not going to get anywhere overclocking that beastly GPU.

The MSI H61M-E23 (B3) comes in a micro ATX form factor at 9.64 inch x 8.46 inch. A great looking board in black color with a blue combination of PCI-E slot. There's only two DIMM slot are available on the board which is the only thing you need for a basic setup.

Finally, moving on the back I/O panel, there's a combo PS/2 port for keyboard and mouse, below are2X USB 2.0 ports. Next to it is an optical port, 2x USB 3.0 ports are in blue color to easily identify above of it is a FireWire. Another 4x USB 2.0 is provided and below is 2x eSATA. It is followed by the Ethernet LAN port and on the lower part are 2x USB 2.0. Lastly, are the audio ports with DTS surround sound output.

There are many ways to overclock graphics adapters. Many times you can use the programs that come with the cards themselves. For example, there are some NVIDIA cards that come with a control panel that allows you to overclock NVIDIA GPUs and overclock NVIDIA memory chips attached to the GPU. The ATI Catalyst Control Center also have a few GPUs that support this same feature of easy overclocking.
