What is a microfundraiser?

microfundraiser [mahy-kroh-fuhnd-rey-zer] - n. a small fundraiser intended on raising small amounts of money in the effort to lead to a greater goal, see "grassroots efforts"

Rooted from the ancient Greek "micro," meaning smaller than the object in focus, and from the English "fundraiser," meaning an event or campaign whose primary purpose is to raise money for a cause

The point of microfundraisers is simplicity. Ease in organization of these fundraisers allows them to be conducted frequently and without too much regard for time. They often raise anywhere from $50 to $500. Givology focuses strongly on these microfundraisers because it allows them to be conducted anywhere, by anyone who wants to support to cause without too much time-intensive organization.

Examples of microfundraisers conducted in the past include bake sales, study breaks with hot chocolate sales (ideal for common rooms in college dorms), dinner parties where each attendee pays a certain amount for food and net proceeds go to Givology, etc.
