Plywood Production Process

The plywood suppliers have several sources to obtain their material from which goes through the entire cycle of production prior to being available for use.

[b]Wood Logging:[/b] The wood necessary for the production of plywood will usually be sourced from forests or special regions with special permits. These are places where wood logging is legal. Logging is illegal in many places due to environmental and aesthetic reasons. Thus, it is sourced from the right place and harvested for the purpose of supplying raw material. Only trees that are of acceptable maturity level are felled for further processing.
[b]Transporting the wood to the mill: [/b]The process of logging is followed by the process of transporting it to the mill.
[b]Log Pond:[/b] These logs are then stored in a yard once they arrive at the mill. Since they may be in store for a long time prior to being processed it is necessary to store them in the right manner to sure they retain their moisture. This is often achieved using a sprinkler system. The logs are not easy to process hence are the first place in a log pond. They are submerged in the water for a long period of time which makes the process of resizing them (cutting or peeling) easier. This process also helps improve the quality of the wood.
[b]De-barking: [/b]This is the process of removing the bark with the help of industrial machines.
[b]Cutting and peeling: [/b]The logs are first cut to the right size as per the requirement. They are then peeled using a rotary lathe which is a process similar to that of pencil sharpener; the difference being the blades are parallel to the log and not meant to sharpen like a pencil nib.
[b]Grading:[/b] The next step on the production line is the process of grading. Prior to the preliminary grading process, the wood is cut to size. The grading process is essential and is achieved by the process of scanning. Any defects in the wood come to light in this process and include the sorting the wood accordingly.
[b]Drying:[/b] The process of drying the wood follows the grading & sizing process. This is necessary since they will still be soaking wet during the grading process. Drying is essential to prevent any fungal decay. A large industrial dryer is used for this process; alternatively, they may also be placed outside for the entire day to dry.
[b]Glue application:[/b] This process is carried out after fixing any minor defects in the veneer. It includes applying glue to both sides of the veneer (using a gluing machine) and it is then placed on top of another veneer.
[b]Cold & Hot Pressing:[/b] Cold pressing is necessary to ensure the veneers are flattened out and the glue is distributed in an even manner. This is followed by the process of hot pressing to force the panels to take the necessary shape.
[b]Trimming & Sanding: [/b] Trimming is necessary to remove excess veneer to ensure it has sharp edges; this process is followed by the sanding process using an industrial sander.
[b]Quality Control:[/b] Quality control is vital for every product and plywood is no exception. This is finally transferred to plywood suppliers in Brisbane.
