Profile

My family has struggled with economic hardships my entire life. Since my father passed away when I was only six months old, I never had the chance to utter the words “daddy”. After the death of my father, my mother shouldered the responsibilities of raising two children. At times when the crop harvest was poor, I would often suffer hunger pains from not having enough to eat. Coming from a single-parent family, my older brother and I would often be made fun of by other children in the village for not having a father. However, I learned to bear these hardships without complaint because I know that my mother has to be even stronger to support the family.

I used to contemplate the option of ending my education in order to support my older brother’s schooling. I know this would also lessen my mother’s burdens by reducing the cost of two tuition bills. However, with the help of past donors, I am again seeing hope in my future.

Updates

  • Fundraising for another year

Givology would like to raise funds to support Pengfang through another year of school. As you can see from Pengfang's letters, your contributions have made a tremendous difference to her and her family. Please continue to show your support! Unlike some of our other partners which provide a one-time grant to a student, the scholarships provided by the Peach Foundation last for two years in order to provide the children with a sustained period of education. In September, the children returned to school, and we are hoping to raise another $270 for the 2010-2011 year. One of the most innovative aspects of Givology is the opportunity to make connections across the world – both inspiring and being inspired by the children that you support. We sincerely hope you consider supporting Pengfang again. Even if you choose not to make a financial contribution, we still urge you to send him a message that we can deliver. Words of encouragement can go a very long way!

Please see below for an update from Pengfang Zhang. As you can see, she is trying to maintain a better work-life balance. Please continue to message her your words of encouragement and support! It may also be helpful to let her know that it's possible to do well while also having fun once in a while. -- Dear good-hearted people: Hope work/school is going well for you and you are enjoying good health! Since I wrote to you in March, I have yet to write again, please forgive me! Sometimes I really think I am one who forgets those who help me, and throws everything aside in the name of "studying". Gradually, I began to realize this is an immature way of doing things. I forgot about life, forgot about gratitude, and forgot about everything else because of school. I began to realize that if I stay "crazy" like this, I will only be a failed person. People should be animals that understand life, understand learning. But I misunderstood it. I thought studying like a m...

  • One Year Complete!

Pengfang Zhang has successfully completed one year of school! As you can read from her handwritten letters , your contribution has made a tremendous difference. $250 paid for tuition, books, school supplies, and transportation for the 2008-2009 school year. Unlike some of our other partners which provide a one-time grant to a student, the scholarships provided by the Peach Foundation last for two years in order to provide the children with a sustained period of education. In September, the children returned to school, and we are hoping to raise another $250 for the 2009-2010 academic year. One of the most innovative aspects of Givology is the opportunity to make connections across the world – both inspiring and being inspired by the children that you support. We sincerely hope you consider supporting Pengfang again. Even if you choose not to make a financial contribution, we still urge you to send her a message that we can deliver.
