He Shuang (He Shuang)'s Blog

My introductory letter

Hi everyone! My name is He Shuang, age 15. Im from Yunnan Lijiang Wang Long state, Feng Ke county and village, district 4. I went to elementary school here and am at the Bai Sha (white sand) middle and high school. Since I was little, Ive grown up in the rural area, and because of the impoverished circumstances of my family, I have been leaning on Peach Foundation and you to help me through schooling. Thank you!
My family has 5 people. Mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, and me. My father is disabled, partially blind. Because he needs treatment often, he relies on farming to keep earning. My mom is also unlucky. Since she was a child, she has had a disease originating from her blood flow and blood quality that forces her to become weak physically. She cant work on the farm fields, so she helps with small business trades here and there. Annually, she goes to the city Kunming to get treatment, which is very costly. Each time, it costs about 20-30,000 yuan. It consumes all of our earnings and then some. Grandpa and grandma are old 81 years old and 73 years old respectively. They are also in poor health.
Im the only child and daughter, and I grew up poor. My most unforgettable childhood memory happened when when I was in grade 4. I came home from school and called for my mother. There was no response. I looked for her everywhere, knowing that her illness subjected her to frequent fainting spells and falls. I ran into the kitchen to find her passed out on the floor, bleeding from her head. I dropped my book bag immediately to rush towards her. She was right near the furnace with the wood still in her hands. She must have been trying to heat the furnace to cook. I took my jacket off and pressed it to her head wound, trying to stop the bleeding. I called my dad, asking him to come home as soon as possible. My tears were streaming down my face as I sobbed. During this time, I noticed that my mothers eye was also wounded and bloody. I put my hands on her eye and covered it until my father got home. That wound on my mothers face left a scar that I can still see to this day&this was my most vivid memory. Each day that I come home and see her face, I see the scar and often cry after recalling the incident.
I consider myself relatively mature, always getting good grades in school but I still want to do better. I have many dreams of doing well academically through studying and then becoming a great doctor, so I can heal wounds and illnesses like the ones that my mom had (still have). I want to contribute a lot to society and help others. This the dream that is deep inside my heart, a dream that drive me, supports me, encourages me&of course, I know that this is an empty dream if I dont put in my own efforts and endure a lot of challenges to get there. I will continue fighting and struggling to never give up. I think I am a strong girl.
So, this is a little about my family and me. I hope that Peach Foundation supporters can get to know me and understand more about me. I will study hard and when I grow up, I will give my heart to help those around me, and also I will be in deep gratitude. I thank you and wish you all good health and good fortune!
