Profile

Miguel is 8 years old and lives in Tunja with his parents and his 8-month-old sister Helen. Helen was born with only one kidney and four missing ribs, and had a lumbar problem. Every month they have to travel to Bogota for Helen's treatment, and this costs a substantial amount of money. Emanuel's mother has to stay at home to take care of her baby. In order to support the family, Miguel's father works as welder, earning 400 USD per month. The four of them live in an apartment with a rent of 250 USD.

In his free time, Miguel enjoys playing chess, playing spinning top, riding his bicycle and playing computer games. Whenever he dreams of the future, Miguel dreams of becoming a pilot and flying free in the clouds.

A very special greeting to you, my sponsors. My wish is for all-powerful God to be with you always. Things have been going well at school, and my grades were good this semester. I was good for my parents this year, so they are making a great effort to buy me birthday gifts. Thanks to your sponsorship, I have been able to help them out more. My little sister Helen has grown a lot. She is already speaking and walking, and she is now in better health. We moved into a new house. We had to leave our dog at my grandmother's house. I miss him/her. I hope you have a merry Christmas. May God bless you. I love you so much. Dear sponsors, I wanted to let you know that I am working very hard at school and things have gone well for me. I am learning to divide and I feel really happy because the teachers have congratulated me on my work. My little sister Helen is now walking, thanks to God, and is continuing with her treatment. She is really cute and I love her very much. My mum and dad are doing well too--they are working really hard to provide for us. I thank you again for the blessings you have given us. They have been a great help and I pray that God blesses and protects you. -Miguel Meija *Translated by Claire Neilly
