We are now fundraising to support Jianping for another year! As you can read from his handwritten letters, your contribution has made a tremendous difference. $250 paid for tuition, books, school supplies, and transportation for the 2009-2010 school year.

Unlike some of our other partners which provide a one-time grant to a student, the scholarships provided by the Peach Foundation last for two years in order to provide the children with a sustained period of education. In September, the children returned to school, and we are hoping to raise another $280 for the 2010-2011 year.

One of the most innovative aspects of Givology is the opportunity to make connections across the world – both inspiring and being inspired by the children that you support. We sincerely hope you consider supporting Jianping again. Even if you choose not to make a financial contribution, we still urge you to send him a message that we can deliver. Words of encouragement can go a very long way!

We recently received this letter from Jianping He. Please message him back to show your continued support as he begins his junior year!

--

Dear Givology,

Thank you for your concern and support for me, as well as your concern for my family. My family and I are all very well. They are currently busy with farm work - my father can always find farm work for us to do. Recently, my situation in school hasn't been ideal - there were many lessons that were hard for me to understand without putting in extra effort and asking questions. I haven't been able to maintain consistent grades - they keep going up and down - and I think this may be because my study methods have changed. This is already the second semester of my sophomore year. I still have to face the general examinations at the end of the semester, and then as soon as September starts, I will be a high school junior, and I will definitely have to put in extra effort to raise my grades. My teacher has said before that it is worth it to struggle in the short term to change one's life for the better in the long run. I plan to persevere 'til the end for the sake of my dreams. In today's society, when looking for a job it's good to have some technology skills, and besides, it's good to have basic skills that will help me in life in general. Going forward, I want to become stronger. Even though life is full of bumps and obstacles, I will endure it for the sake of building the foundation of a better life, and not give up. No matter what, I want to make the best of what is left of high school, and I definitely don't want to disappoint all of you who have supported me.

All the best,

Jianping He

Below is a recent update from Jianping He. Please message him back to show your continued support!

Dear Givology,

I am Jianping He. I was very happy to receive your letter. We just started a new semester, and I'm hoping that this semester, I can bring my grades up. If I can't, then I'm really hopeless. Ever since I was born I've been impoverished, and I've helped my parents farm every now and then, so I have a spirit that's able to bear hardship? I'm a pretty extroverted person, and I'm rather tolerant - I don't like to quibble over little things. I kind of like math, and I kind of like English, because through this class I've become familiar with some interesting stories. I really like sports, especially basketball, and when I'm feeling down I'll go play basketball or take a jog. Sometimes I'll also play ping pong, which is also very fun. When I have time, I like to read books outside of class, because from books I can learn about alot of interesting things I didn't know before. I'm really thankful for your care and help - it really makes me feel the greatness of love. In the future, if I can, I will also do charity work and do some things that are good for humanity, since this is the kind of life that brings joy. Can I ask you - are you guys or girls? My English is pretty bad, so I can't use English in my reply to you - please forgive me for that. We have similar hobbies and interests, so I would be very happy to be your friend, if you are willing. As the Chinese proverb goes: "If people have different goals, they are going to go in different directions" - this is our fate. Finally, I'd also like to encourage you to also study hard. If you have anything on your mind you can also tell me. It is also important to stay healthy and maintain a cheerful outlook. Let's keep on working toward our goals!

All the best,

Jianping He

Jianping He has successfully completed one year of school! As you can read from his handwritten letters, your contribution has made a tremendous difference. $250 paid for tuition, books, school supplies, and transportation for the 2008-2009 school year.

Dear Uncles and Aunties,

Thanks for all your support and kindness. I'll do my best to return this huge favor. I'm doing well at school. Though I'm loaded with school work, by handling them properly it's in fact not that hard to deal with. Among all the subjects, I'm most interested in English, and then Chinese. I enjoy doing Chemistry experiments. Physics isn't easy but it's fun to learn. Also, I love my classmates and teachers. They're very nice people.

There're currently 4 people in my family, with my dad working in the city to support us. We're planting corn instead of hot pepper this year, mostly because hot pepper didn't sell well last year and the price is relatively low. Unfortunately, my younger brother passed away because of improper medical treatment. It was last year when I went to summer camp for the very first time. Now I'm in Grade 10 Class 3, Yan Yuan Ming Zu Middle School, Yan Yuan County, Sichuan Province.

I hope in the future I can work for something I feel truly passionate about and also beneficial to society. To be better prepared for this goal, I should go to college. I plan to major in something technology-related. Though it requires hard work, technology in my opinion is more realistic. Besides, I'm very interested in technology, and I always believe that interest is the best teacher.

Maths and Physics are kind of difficult, and the rest of the subjects are much easier. But I believe I will perform better in Maths and Physics with constant effort. Studying is sometimes exhausting, but I also get to discover the unknown, to enlighten my spirit, to be better prepared for my future, and these are the fun in learning!

Best Wishes,
He Jianping
