Kampala, Uganda

Until this year I lived with my family in a remote village in the northern part of Uganda. I came to Peace School six months ago. I had never been to school before. After my father died, Mrs. Oliver, who is a teacher at the School, brought me here. She was a friend of my father.   I now live at Peace School with 14 other boys in the Boy’s Dormitory.   During the holidays I go back to my village and stay with my grandfather. I miss my family a lot. It is good to see my mother, brothers and sister. My family speaks Swahili and it has been difficult to learn English and attend a school where classes are taught in English.   My favorite subject is math. Thank you for helping me to get a good education.   Note: Peace Nursery and Primary School is a private school serving orphans and other children unable to afford the costs of attending public schools. As such, it receives no funding from public sources. Located in a suburb of Uganda’s capital city Kampala, the school is in a hig...

My name is Johanna Alejandra. I am from El Cocuy, Boyaca State. I was born on February 24, 1995. My family includes my mother Gladys, my father Hugo, my twin brothers Carlos and Manuel, and my younger brother Sergio. My twin brothers were born prematurely and caught severe cases of pneumonia. School Reconstruction in La Vallee
$2500 of $2500 donated

Sud East, Haiti

An earthquake registering over 7.0 on the Magnitude scale has devastated the country of Haiti. Almost 100% of the schools in the earthquake zone have been damaged or destroyed. Due to the instability of all the buildings, the Haitian students are without schools and many of them have been left homeless, forced to live outside. Almost every Haitian citizen has been affected by this tragedy. Many of the families in La Valle have lost loved ones. A large number of those dead have been children attending schools in Port Au Prince or the surrounding area. Due to the overwhelming numbers of dead buried in mass graves, many of these families will never know what has happened to their children. This project will be dedicated to the rebuilding and repairing of the schools in the La Valle/Jacmel region of Haiti in order to provide hope for Haiti’s future. [The project profile picture shows the high school before the earthquake.]
