I came to Peace School one year ago when my mother died. My father is related to the cook at Peace School and she suggested that I come here to complete my primary education. It has been difficult because the classes here are taught in English. The old school I attended uses our native language Luganda. But I am learning English very fast. Karnataka, India
Akshita Sampangi has a sister and a brother and lives with her parents. Her father is a daily wage labourer in agriculture and construction and switches between the two depending on availability of work. He mother too works as daily wage agricultural labourer and finds work on a seasonable basis. The family consists of five members- mother, father and three children. With a meager annual salary of 20,000 INR the parents try to make ends meet while continuing to send the three children to school. If one child is funded, therefore, the entire family will be relieved of some of their financial burden. Without any assistance, the parents would most likely end the education of one of the children - most likely the girl. When work is not available, the family struggles to even put 2 meals a day on the table. It is therefore urgent that they receive help.
